Smallholder farmers in Uganda have been urged to adopt new innovations in regenerative agriculture and renewable energy production to improve productivity, increase the marketability of their produce, and enhance household incomes.
While addressing smallholder farmers during a three-day farm learning visit at Njeru Guest Farm in Rwengaju Model Sub-county, Kabarole District and Rural Family Care in Kanyatsi cell, Kinyamaseke town council, yesterday, Ms. Harriet Nakasi, the Coordinator of the Advocacy Coalition for Sustainable Agriculture (ACSA), said that integrating new innovations into farming practices would help farmers increase production and improve their livelihoods.
Mr. David Mwesigye Baguma, proprietor of Njeru Guest Farm, and Mr. Francis Baita of Rural Family Care asked the government to extend water to farmers and support value addition using available innovations to enable farmers to access better markets for their products.
One of the visitors, Ms. Stella Nabbumba from Mpigi District Farmers Association, encouraged members of the Advocacy Coalition for Sustainable Agriculture to embrace regenerative Agriculture to help mitigate global warming and prevent environmental disasters.
